Preparing for Winter: EAB Treatments in Minnesota

As summer progresses in Minnesota, it’s important for tree owners to be aware that the optimal season for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) injections is winding down. The EAB, an invasive pest first discovered in North America in the early 2000s, has been wreaking havoc on ash trees across the state (Minnesota Department of Agriculture, 2023). Infested trees often display canopy dieback, epicormic sprouting, and signs of woodpecker activity. To protect these valuable trees, owners typically treat them with systemic insecticides, injected directly into the tree’s vascular system to target the destructive larvae. These treatments are most effective during the growing season, before dormancy sets in, which makes scheduling any last-minute applications critical. By acting now, tree owners can help ensure the health and longevity of their ash trees, preserving them for future generations.
